The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) on October 09, 2026, notified the Test and statutory inspection of suspected modified LPG tankers through accredited third-party inspection agencies/competent persons for expeditious restoration of these tankers into service.
The following has been stated:
• It has directed licensees of suspected modified LPG mobile tankers licensed in Form LS-2 under the Static and Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules, 2016, and the concerned fabricators to jointly undertake periodic testing under Rule 19, along with additional inspections through PESO-recognised Third-Party Inspection Agencies (TPIAs) or competent persons. The tankers shall be degassed at PESO-approved stations and undergo mandatory hydrostatic testing, internal and external visual inspection, material verification, hardness and ultrasonic thickness testing, and 100% radiography of weld joints. Relevant fabrication and material documents shall be verified, and the entire testing process shall be photographed or videographed with the records preserved.
• The TPIA or competent person shall clearly certify the suitability of each tanker for transportation, loading and unloading of compressed gas. Tankers failing any test or found unsafe shall be scrapped through a government-approved agency, with the Chief Controller of Explosives informed. All testing expenses shall be borne by the fabricator and tanker owner, and the prescribed activities shall be completed within 120 days from the date of issue of the letter, failing which penal action may be initiated without prior intimation.
